Well, as the title says here you can ask about screenshots and stuff....

Some basics to start with:

- Easiest ways to get a screenshot without the UI:

* press "PrintScreen"
* type "/screenshot_jpg"

The picture will be in folder Games/Cryptic Studios/Star Trek Online/Live/screenshots

Alternatively you can use a standalone program and set it up as you wish like Lightshot
or
use printscreen and paste the result in an editing program

A different way is to use a video recording program like Demo Record Will suggested in Useful Links

*Work in progress..

James T. Kirk: Yeah, he is. I'm not.
Scotty: Well, that's brilliant. Do they still have sandwiches there?

now we built the classroom (👻 😁 )
I ll start the questions...

Will!
You can rotate the camera and take screenshots of things you didnt even look at while playing with that Demo Record? 🤤 😶
How big can a demo be?
is it "big and heavy"? Can I use it the same time i play?

Have you used GeForce experience to do something similar? Is it working anything close to that? (I have it but haven't used it yet..)

Demo Record is built into the game so basically you are recording a video that you can interact in in terms of moving the camera around in the area that is basically within the general view of your captain. You can even set the camera on sort of a virtual track and record a video that moves in and out and around your ship or the area. I don't remember what the max length is but it is kind of short I think. the only thing you really need to download is a utility to extract, manage, and edit the files you create. I linked the one made by a former STO player who did a tutorial on the main forums. There are other 3rd party utilities you can download as well. If techiejoe is still around he can answer the questions better. I

The Nvidia app just lets you record what's on the screen so there is no moving the camera or anything after the fact. I shot our PVP videos using it as it was easy to use. You can also add your own voice to it if you have a microphone on when recording. I had issues getting the volume just right on my mic as I was going to do commentary but I have a kid and nagging wife and no one wants to hear that.

Added a link to a more advanced tutorial to the useful link page. It has a few good videos to go with it. Also, i couldn't find a limit on length but a long recording allegedly takes a long time for the game to save.

I don't remember if it's mentioned in the tutorials but you will need recording software to capture the video after you set it up if you plan on posting it. Im sure the geforce one will work just fine. Fraps has a free one and a premium one. Otherwise if youre just doing screen shots nothing is needed.

Another thing, I don't know if that is obvious but for me it took some time to find out:
In the command line, you can use
/renderscale <number>
to upgrade your screenshots. Renderscale 1, as far as I know, is the game's default.
Renderscale 3 or 4 produce finer scaled screenshots (as you would expect), but the game then runs SLOW for you... don't use it while playing serious stuff, only for screenshots, I'd suggest. Oh, and the file size rises. But you see the difference as soon as you try zooming in on your pictures and compare the results.

Another one (more obvious) is the Alt-F12 combo to turn off the HUD. That makes it a bit easier to get the right screenshot angle, just use PrintScreen key then as you will not see the console anymore (you were warned). HUD comes back with Alt-F12 as expected.

Thats all I can add in terms of screenshots...
