A New Way of Thinking...

[F.A.] Grayfox H.F.D.C. posted May 1, 15

Dear Liberty Task Force/Liberty Honor Guard Members and Guests,

Wow! It has been nearly a year and a half since I’ve posted something in the “Fleet News” section of our website. The fleet is now two years old and in that time we have completed everything on our Federation side (in our first year) and our Klingon side has everything completed except for Starbase, which is more than halfway to Shipyard Tier V, and that is what we always wanted. It would seem that these news updates keep getting further and further apart; however, in my own defense I have been sending out continuous updates via the website and in-game emails. Looking back at previous posts, some of the goals for the fleet were truly very ambitious. While some we did accomplish or have started, a lot are still on the drawing room table.

I’m actually okay with the pace of the fleet. As I’ve noted in previous posts, most of us are casual gamers and the little free time that we do have, we like to spend it actually playing the game instead of doing administrative things. Also, with the new Delta Recruit initiative from Cryptic, I now have a KDF Romulan that is leveled enough to actually support the Klingon Fleet.

I’ve had a lot of time to think about the fleet in the year and a half between these posts and I’ve realized that in the past, a lot of things I wanted to do were to impress other fleets of the Star Trek Online community. I’ve learned that while being respected as a fleet in the community is great, it is much better to be respected within the fleet itself.

We’ve always opened our doors to other fleets, often times giving free access to our Tier V Shipyard as a sign of solidarity. However, instead of trying to concentrate so hard in helping the entire Star Trek Online community and spreading myself thin, I’m going to primarily concentrate on making the fleet even better and stronger. We will of course continue to support our STOFA allies, now officially four fleets strong (and growing): Liberty Task Force, Starfleet Task Force 1, Vulcan Kolinahr Fleet, and Explorers of the Final Frontier.

THE 2015 PLAN:
While the goals from the previous post are still on the table (ACT for website, magazine, and internet radio - we’ve already started website award system and walkthroughs) our main focus this year will be improving the quality of gaming/membership within the fleet and completing the KDF Fleet.

In order to do this, the Admiralty will first take a closer look at the requirements of membership and adjust things accordingly to new demands including: Fleet Bank access, rank contributions, Clearance Levels, M.I.A. statuses, award systems, events/activities, alliances, etc. Once this is done, we will formally write the fleet’s Code of Conduct, that while in place, is currently piecemealed throughout the forums. We are also looking to create a “Frequently Asked Questions” (FAQ) section for our new members where they can find information quickly instead of searching through our forums.

As for the rest of the stuff, like the old saying goes, it will get done when it gets done...meaning that we still plan to do all the things we set out to do, but I don’t want to detract from the whole point of all of this...playing Star Trek Online.

In closing, the 2015 plan is simple; basically I just want to concentrate more on us, setting and completing small goals and letting the larger ones come with time. I really want to tighten the feeling of membership and more importantly get more members involved in the in-game chats, website/forums, and TeamSpeak. I want to work closer with our allied fleets so that we can coordinate STF’s, episodes, and events more efficiently. But most of all I just want to have fun with all of you playing Star Trek Online.

I want to thank all our members. We have so many that contribute so much every day to both our Fed and KDF fleets, so many that put items and EC in our Fleet Banks to help others, some have donated real money to keep the website and TeamSpeak going, and to the Vice Admiralty who assist in taking care of the website, TeamSpeak, and the overall duties within the fleet. Thank you all so much for the support and dedication to this fleet. Take care and see you all in space!

Best Regards,

2014 Plans for the New Year

[F.A.] Grayfox H.F.D.C. posted Jan 21, 14

Dear Liberty Task Force/Liberty Honor Guard Members and Guests,

It's been awhile since I posted one of these; in fact, the last one was in September when I started work again. Obviously, work has cut my gaming time a lot and I have to juggle my time between work, playing Star Trek Online, and updating the website as often as possible. I am guilty of not working on the website as much as I should because when it comes to either working on the website or playing Star Trek Online, I typically choose Star Trek Online. So my New Year’s gaming resolution is to first, work on the website more and finally finish it all up and second, play my KDF character more and support our KDF fleet.

The 2014 New Year will bring great things for this fleet, I am sure of that. First of course is the full completion of all our Fed fleet projects. We are just on schedule to finish all our Tier V projects in roughly 2 1/2 more months (that’s including the cool-down timers). This will most likely also coincide with the fleet’s 1st year anniversary.

While our KDF fleet started two months after our Fed fleet and of course is slightly behind in progress, it is still making great strides and at decent rate. We will get the KDF fleet to its highest Tier and I encourage all of you (including myself) to play the KDF side more often, to promote this we will start to have KDF only fleet events where in-game prizes will only be available to KDF characters.

The Admiralty is aware of the issue with contributions and we will be discussing it internally through our website forums and e-mails. Again, remember we do have Special Projects for request so please take advantage of that. Right now, we’re asking for your patience once again and for Common Duty Officers.

Great things are in the planning stages and are already happening with STOFA. While the initiative took some time to get up and running, we have our first real fleet alliance with Starfleet Sigma Task Group at We have already begun our inter-fleet PvP tournament and so far, it is a great success. The alliance channel is active and people from both sides are queuing up to do STF’s and other Fleet runs together.

We have plans to expand our alliances with other great fleets. Talks are in the works with the 12th Fleet and the Vulcan Kolinahr Fleet, two of the oldest fleets in Star Trek Online. We’re also looking to revive our alliances with Raven’s Legacy and the Mak’Tar (who are looking to come back to STO) and a few other fleets we’ve been looking at. We are looking to be much more selective with our alliances and trying to choose fleets that have the same interests and goals as us.

This year the fleets involved will discuss the STOFA charter in more detail and help to finish and fine-tune it to make sure that we are all on the same page. The STOFA initiative was to create a community from communities so that we could all game together and benefit from the alliance.

Our role-playing, while still slow to pick-up, has seen a little more action. We are still planning in participating and lending our Fleet Starbase into the Open Starbase Project: We still need to set a few guidelines to the RP, not everyone can be an RP Vice Admiral or Admiral and Lily (a.k.a. NPC in our fleet) from the 26th fleet will be helping us out, along with zh’Thrissha, to get our story going.

For the meantime, until we get our RP story going, feel free to post your own daily/weekly/monthly personal logs in the following forums: I am going to try to part-take in these more often as well; it can be a simple paragraph or two describing the mission(s) you did in character in the game. Be mindful not to use canon characters that may involve only your character as these are for everyone also, try always to keep it in the Star Trek canon.

Remember the 60-day log in is still in affect (120 days for Honorary Founders and those who post in the Risa Shore Leave... (Leave of Absence) forums: Please make sure that your characters log in at least once every 60 days; the next roster cleanup will be on or around March 1st, 2014.

Also, for those registered to the website make sure that you add your character with the @HandleName (example: Grayfox@GrayfoxJames) so we know who all your characters are simply based on that name handle not just the character name. If you have any questions with this one just message me or e-mail me at

The following are some of the things that are on the back burner until they are ready to go but here are some of the plans we have for the fleet in the future (granted some of these may be for the not so near future):

1. Advanced Combat Tracker Logs for the Website:  I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, we would still like to place some of the PvP ACT logs into the website as a webpage. This is proving more difficult because Enjin doesn’t allow the upload of multiple files at once, instead only one at a time. Despite this, we would still like to post some of the logs into the PvP page of the website.
2. Website Award System:  We’d like to implement an Award/Medal system into the website to recognize those members that go above-and-beyond their normal duty. Thanks to our member Rip, we may be using some of the following awards: along with a few new ones, some of those are funny gag awards and I think will help to lighten the mood and tone.
3. Liberty Task Force PDF Magazine:  I would like to implement in the future our very own LTF/LHG PDF Magazine where we can write articles and walkthrough on Foundry missions, Episode missions, Zombie’s STF walkthrough, ship builds, members of the month, etc. We might be able to do this perhaps 4 times a year to start and I think it would be a nice addition to the fleet news.
4. Liberty Task Force Internet Radio:  In the future, I’d like to have our own LTF/LHG internet radio where we can have podcasts and what not about game events and have DJ’s play music during fleet mixers. For the time being, I’m looking into "hiring” an MMO Internet Radio (Mainly Sub-Space Radio: to help run the planned party we’re going to have when our Starbase is all finished with Tier V.

In closing, those are just some of the goals we’re setting out to accomplish this year...and yes I know we still need to post Bladeheart’s official Romulan Fleet Uniforms; I promise we will be on top of it and hope to have it up by the end of this month/beginning of next. Some of these goals are very ambitious but I know we can meet them all if we all work together as a team. I want to personally thank all of you for being members of the fleet and for giving so much to the fleet in the form of contributions and activity to the fleet.

I also want to thank the Vice Admirals who help out so much and take time out of their lives and their gaming in making this fleet run smoothly. I want to thank: Zach for helping with the website, Zombie for his continued walkthroughs and training events, Fencer for being in the game all the time and helping to answer questions about the game on TeamSpeak and chat, Zaze and Dinger for bringing the KDF to the levels they are today, zh’Thrissha for helping with the RP storylines, and especially to Damir who has basically become my right hand man in all of this (I need to call it how I see it).

This has been a very long post and I want to thank you for taking the time to read it all. Again, just be patient with the Admiralty, remember besides playing the game and their normal real life they do take the time to help run the fleet with no compensation whatsoever. As I've said before getting things going might seem slow at first but be mindful that everyone has their own personal schedule and coordinating a fleet of this size and activity is not easy. Once again thank you all for your help, cooperation, and support. Take care and see you all in space!

Best Regards,

Liberty Task Force Admiral/Liberty Honor Guard General
Dear Liberty Task Force/Liberty Honor Guard Members and Guests,

First and foremost, I want to congratulate and thank everyone for their hard work, activity levels, contributions, dedication, and loyalty to the fleet. We could not have reached this far this fast without the dedication of all our members. We have filled our "Upgrade Industrial Fabricator IV" project in one day and now only need to finish our "Upgrade Starbase Tier IV" and "Upgrade Transwarp Conduit IV" to complete our Tier IV progress; along with this our Dilithium Mine is also nearly done and our Embassy has been fully completed for sometime. We are now clearly and steadily on the road to Tier V and with this in mind there is a greater need for a better structure to the fleet and a greater need to create a tighter and more cohesive online community. Therefore, I'd like to discuss a few changes that will be occurring in the fleet in the coming weeks.

On Saturday, September 28th, 2013 the fleet will be officially five months old and on this day we will be cleaning up the in-game roster. I will be kicking all members that have been inactive from the game for 90 days or more. Some exceptions might be made as I have been made aware of certain member's situations, but for the most part any member who has not been active for 90 days (last log in Sunday, June 30th, 2013 on 9/28/13) will be kicked from the fleet. This will ensure that our roster stays fresh with active and dedicated members. This clean-up will not affect our KDF fleet, Liberty Honor Guard since it is not yet 90 days old. Should a member log back into the game/website to find themselves kicked from the fleet and wish to be re-invited; please send me an e-mail at or an in-game e-mail at Grayfox@GrayfoxJames and we will send you another invite (a re-registration to the website might be required and rank may be lost).

This roster clean-up will not discriminate against member's alternate characters. Therefore, it is imperative that if you have several alternate characters that you have not logged into lately please make sure you log into them at least once between now and the 28th of September so that their last log in is updated accordingly.

On this same day (Saturday, September 28th, 2013) I will also be cleaning up the website roster. After inactive members have been kicked from the fleet I will then cross-check the website roster with that of our Fed and KDF fleets to ensure that people that are listed as members are actually still members. What will happen here is that any member who does not have a character attached to their website account will be automatically kicked from the website. It is very important that you attach at least one of your characters to your website account and also ensure that the name is spelled correctly and one can easily recognize a member through their character on the website. You do not need to add all your characters, one will suffice, either your Federation character in Liberty Task Force or your Klingon character on Liberty Honor Guard.

Registering with the website is not manditory at this time (though this might change in the future). This fleet has always been huge on creating a great online community of friends and therefore it has always been the policy that any in-game prizes resulting from fleet events and activities would only be rewarded to members who have chosen to register with the website. We remain true to this policy. In order to ensure that you do not lose this privilege, again please ensure that you have a character that is in the fleet attached to your website account (this policy will not be enforced towards our Allies/Diplomats or Friends/Guests).

To add a character to your account go into "Account Settings" on the top right corner of the website. Then click on "Characters" on the left hand side and finally "Add Character" on the right tab and follow the directions from there. If you still require assistance please e-mail me directly at and I will assist you.

Along with the roster clean-up, what will follow in the coming days after Saturday, September 28th, 2013 is a restructuring of the fleet ranks and promotion requirements. First, the "Provisions Access" rank will disappear along with the "Starbase/Embassy/Mining Provisions Requisitions" section of our forums. Members will no longer be able to request permission to require provision access, instead they will need to have the required rank for it. No one will be "grandfathered" in. The new rank structure will be as follows:

1. LTF Lieutenant
2. LTF Commander (100,000 total contributions)
3. LTF Captain (200,000 total contributions)
4. LTF Commodore (300,000 total contributions)

It has not yet been determined at which rank access to stores will be given; it is either between LTF Commander or LTF Captain. Minimal Fleet Bank access will be granted at LTF Commander with increasing access as one ranks up. Invite non-members to Fleet own maps will be given to LTF Captain and up and the ability to Invite to Fleet will be given to LTF Commodore. More information on the ranks and their access levels will be given at a future date.

After the restructuring of the basic ranks, the Admiralty might also be restructured. It has not yet been decided if the rank of "Rear Admiral" will stay or taken away. Rear Admirals that are to remain will be promoted to Vice Admiral, those that won't will be demoted to their appropriate rank based on total contributions. What will change is the Admiralties responsibilities and roles in the fleet. Every Vice Admiral (and Rear Admiral if position stays) will be given a very specifc role and task to perform in the fleet.

The Admiralty is aware that there is a growing need for more projects in order to allow members to contribute to increase their rank and their fleet credits. Part of this demand is do to the fact that we have been in an Upgrade period and many projects were locked out during that time. We are looking into the situation and planning other ways that members can request on-demand projects to be open personally just for them. More information on this method will be given on the forums in time.

We will be taking off "The Gauntlet (PvP Matches)" section of the forum and instead focus on creating a fixed PvP schedule and not rely on posted "challenges"; the idea was good but that section of the forum has not been used and the novelty has worn off. I will also be introducing a small section on the forums specifically for our KDF fleet. We plan to eventually also add a page dedicated to "Advanced Combat Tracker Logs" where we can post our personal logs so members can view their stats during an STF or PvP match. The logistics of setting that up are a bit complicated at this time, so this might take awhile to setup; right now it remains on the back-burner.

We are also looking to add a F.A.Q. section to the website for new members and potential members and we will also include a detailed and thorough Code of Conduct to be placed visibly in one place of our website regarding all our policies instead of posted in different sections of our forums.

In closing, I just want to say that all these changes are coming into play in order to create a more stable and friendly gaming community. We are not looking to isolate anyone out; we remain an active, friendly, and casual fleet but we cannot deny ourselves the fact that we are reaching yet another milestone in Star Trek Online. A fleet must remain fluid and adapt to growing demands and be able to protect its most dedicated and loyal members as well as always keeping the best interest of the fleet in mind. We are looking to create a very close-knit online community of gamers and friends, and we will ensure that any changes we make are always geared towards that goal. We encourage all members to use TeamSpeak as many friendships and easier gaming can be had through it, not to mention quicker learning. We will make sure to keep all our members informed of any other changes and updates in a timely manner both through our website and in-game fleet e-mail.

I want to ask everyone for their patience, understanding, and cooperation during this time of change and restructuring of the fleet. I promise the changes will be made as non-intrusive and as quickly as possible and should not effect your gaming experience. I promise this will all create a better fleet and a better gaming community. Once again, I want to thank everyone for their dedication and loyalty to this fleet. Who would have thought that in 4 1/2 months we would have made it this far this fast. I thank you all, take care, and see you in space!

Best Regards
